On May 2, 2010, Phi Beta Kappa Cleveland held its Annual Scholastic Awards Banquet.
On Sunday, May 2nd, 2010, the Cleveland Association of Phi Beta Kappa recognized 110 outstanding graduating seniors from high schools across Northeast Ohio. This Annual Scholastic Awards Banquet, hosted by the Cleveland Association of Phi Beta Kappa, was held at Executive Caterers at Landerhaven. The faculty of each high school selected the Scholastic Award recipients based on academic achievement and scholarship (including maintaining a grade point average in the top 10% of the class). This Award is considered by many to be one of the most prestigious honors a high school student can receive. Each student’s name will be engraved on the Phi Beta Kappa plaque that is permanently displayed at each school.
As it does each year at this banquet, the Cleveland Association of Phi Beta Kappa also awarded a renewable four-year scholarship. This years recipient was Mr. Lawrence Neil from Shaker Heights High School.
The winners were accompanied by parents, guests, teachers, and guidance counselors during the awards ceremony. The keynote address was presented by Ms. Sally Pellegrin, the 2009 Recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching Math and Science. Ms. Pellegrin, who is a teacher at Clara E. Westropp Elementary School in Cleveland delivered an inspirational talk.
